Now that you have an article on the evasi0n jailbreak tool for both Windows and Mac OS X, it’s time for one if you’re using a Linux OS. Here at iJailbreakthis we aim to provide you with simple, easy to follow step by step guides on how to safely perform the jailbreak in a matter of minutes. This particular tutorial is for Linux users and will work the same for all Apple devices running iOS 6.X such as iPhone 3GS/4/4s/5 iPad 2/3/4/mini and iPod 4G/5g.
The jailbreak tool, known as evasi0n has now had around 300,000 downloads. That’s some going as it has been out for less than 24hours.
Windows users can follow this simple guide. [Windows Tutorial]
Mac OS X users can follow this simple guide.[Mac OS X Tutorial
This particular jailbreak has been tested (by iJailbreakthis, personally) on the following devices:
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPad 2nd Gen
- iPad 3rd Gen (The New iPad)
- iPod Touch 4th Gen
Just to confirm, All were successful.
Important!! You must be currently running iOS 6.0, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2, or iOS 6.1 for evasi0n to work. If you have not yet performed an upgrade then you must read our guide on how to prepare your device for the iOS 6 upgrade.
Step 1: You are going to need to download evasi0n for Linux via our downloads page and then extract the .zip file.
Or download directly here. evasi0n Download [Linux]
Step 2: You are going to need to double click on evasi0n.x86 or evasi0n.86_64(depends on 32/64bit).
Step 3: Note: if you have a password on your device you will need to remove it prior to the jailbreak process.
Step 4: Once you have confirmed that your password is removed, simply plug in your iDevice to your PC.
Step 5: You should then see see a message on the evasi0n tool that it has detected your device.
Step 6: Click Jailbreak in order to begin the process.
Step 7: You will notice that the evasi0n will perform several steps on its own which will include:preparing jailbreak data, injecting jailbreak data, rebooting the device, uploading Cydia, and uploading the Cydia packages list. Do not play with your device, simply sit back and be patient.
Step 8: The next step is a little different to previous jailbreaks, it will ask you to unlock your device and click ONCE on the new evasi0n icon on your springboard. The screen should go black and then return to the Home screen.
Step 9: Almost there, few more steps. You should now see more messages like injecting jailbreak data messages, and Root Filesystem successfully remounted on the evasi0n tool.
Step 10: After that has successfully completed then you should notice that there is now a message saying “done!” your device should then reboot. This is the part of the process where you need to be a little patient folks. Do not go messing with the device, simply sit back and let evasi0n do its thing. Your device may restart a few times.
After your device has completed rebooting then you will once again be presented with a few on screen messages including the new evasi0n logo. Messages include the following:
- Initializing offsets
- Finding offsets
- Patching kernel
- Cleaning up!
- Done! Continuing boot
Once complete, you will be taken to the lock screen which indicates that the jailbreak process is complete! Simply slide to unlock your phone and hey presto, there is Cydia. You will need to open Cydia and let it initialise which will require one more reboot when that is complete. Upon restart of your device you are official jailbroken running iOS 6.X using evasi0n jailbreak tool.
Congratulations everyone, and a massive thank you to the evad3rs team.
